And I'll say it again since it didn't sink in before. If you do not place the shot correctly, the animal will not die. It doesn't matter if you hunt with an airgun or a .50cal Barrett. Since airguns have no recoil and are accurate almost to the point of stupidity, if the hunter does his job, the gun will do its job. But rifle or airgun, it's up to the hunter.

It shouldn't bother you that the bear was shot and didn't die. You have no idea where it was shot, how, how far, etc. For you to justify using a rifle because an animal doesn't die immediately upon being hit anywhere with a rifle, then this argument is futile. It doesn't make sense. This guy had the big gun and the bear still didn't die. Obviously, that means if you don't put the damn bullet where it needs to go, it doesn't matter how much energy the bullet has behind it.

The fact is airguns are viable hunting tools. They can humanely and quickly dispatch an animal larger than a human. You talking about inferiority is silly. You call a gun with less than ultra super uber magnum power inferior, I call it adequate. And I call a gun with super uber magnum power overkill.

This cop and civilian could certainly attest to the power of big bore airguns......if they were alive today to talk about it.

My uncle came over to visit and we scoped in a little plinking gun he bought to try to ward off some vermin in his yard. I let him shoot my gun one time and his eyes were huge. He told me he'd never shot something so loud and so powerful in his life, powered by nothing but compressed air. We were shooting at concrete stepping stones, which at 30 yards we shattered into a million pieces.

All I will say is please continue to think airguns aren't powerful. You're right, they're weak. They're no good. They're crap. Now, we don't have to worry about any kind of regulations on them. After all, they're childs toys, right?

Not saying they are weak, nor toys exactly, just weaker than firearms.

Like I said, I am sure they are fun novelties, plenty of power for some purposes and great for certain purposes. Variety is the spice of life and all.
Just not as awesome as you are making out.

No they are 10 times more awesome than I can explain on here.

Because I shoot a .50cal airgun far far FAR cheaper per round than a 50 cal firearm, same for any other caliber. So just like you say they are not as awesome as I'm making them out to be, they are not as bland as you're making them out to be. Airguns have many uses, like home defense where there will be no bright flash and no heat signature. That makes an ideal weapon. They can be used in the city where firearm use is severely restricted. And believe me, you walk into a home and get hit with a .45 200gr slug at 15 feet, it'll embed itself nicely into the wall behind it. Followed by a dull thud of a mans body hitting the ground.

But no, airguns are just novelties.

Well they are better than firearms in many ways. Its just how are they better.

They are cheaper. They do not require an intrusive background check to own and can be "mail ordered". They are a good alternative to someone like a handicapped person that cant take the recoil of a large weapon. They make very little noise, meaning you can hunt with them near populated areas and not bother anyone. Their short range makes them less dangerous on missed shots. Their per shot cost is very cheap. Not all airguns are single shot guns. My airgun is a 6 shot repeater. I can put a 44grain slug at high velocity into an intruder 6 times before I need to rearm, and that takes about 3 seconds, and I have 6 more ready.

You can't compare a firearm to a bow and arrow. Sorry.

I consider those pretty damn good qualities to have. Whether or not you think firearms are better will never be decided in this thread. Its your opinion. I know people that would say firearms are better, and many who would say airguns are.
