Okay, I have to slip the funny story in at this point. When I was living in New Jersey, I lived in an Italian neighborhood. One evening a man broke into a row house back door. An elderly Italian woman lived there. She fired a large caliber pistol several times, missing him completely, but chasing him through the house. He made it to an upstairs bedroom where he blocked the door with a dresser and called the police begging them to come quickly. It turned out that he was a drunk who broke in the wrong back door. The bar had taken his keys so he wouldn't drive home and when he got home he realized that he couldn't open the front door. So he went around back to break into what he thought was his own backdoor. He was about three or four doors off. Hey, when you are drunk, row houses all look the same.

Under today's laws, that would have been Home Invasion, not burglary.
