I guess the impression people have of atheism is a definitive and absolute belief that there is no God. That really isn't how I understand it though. Atheism is the acknowledgement that there is no evidence, and thus no compelling reason, to believe God. It is like saying that people who don't believe in unicorns are taking a leap of faith... Not really. They just don't have any reason to believe in them.

"Don't believe in nothing", really means "believe in something". If you want that to be a true statement, "don't" must be omitted.
