kind of like how everyone swears with their hand on a bible even though you know half of them could give a shit.
papal investiture was all ceremony, and very little actual belief. the only reason the papacy was paid any real mind was that they held a ridiculous amount of actual power in terms of land held, people controlled, and dukes on the payroll.

The point is that the idea "divine right of kings" is a christian concept, whether or not people actually believed that stuff or just didn't want to be burned at the stake is a different argument.
I'm guessing if you didn't believe in this stuff you kept that shit to yourself.
