History of PCF essay

I am starting this thread because it looks like we have enough of the original PCFers here that can recap the history of the original PCF. Each person should submit their own entry if they want to participate. Submissions only because comments/responses to other submissions will be deleted. I don't want this turning into a debate thread. If you aren't posting a submission then don't post at all to be safe.

These are the guidelines:

1) At least 300 words and no more than 1,000
2) No pictures or videos, just text. Links are ok if they qualify as a submission.
3) Do not focus on individual members and instead focus on the site events in a timeline fashion. Individual members may be referenced as long as their actions were a significant impact on the site. Ideally a short essay from the start of PCF to the end. Include dates (at least years) as needed so we can get an idea when the events occurred.
4) Write your words to be easily readable by a wide array of viewers. Remember that our goal is for a lot of people to be reading it in the future.
5) Pay close attention to grammar, spelling and punctuation. Write to impress.

The best submission will be used in future public relations as needed. Besides site-wide recognition, uebermann and I will discuss a possible bonus to the winner.

A correction or two.

I spent at least $2-300.00 advertising PP (we actually made it to page 2 on key search results in a matter of months), and countless hours trying to link up with other political websites (which we did for awhile). I also posted everywhere I could so that people looking for PCF could find PP. This is beyond the money and time spent setting up the host and what not. I also spent a decent amount of money upgrading to better hosting when we added the chat. The thing that killed the users, and ultimately PP was that PCF came back up after several months. Everyone left PP to go back to PCF, and it went back down about a week later. It was after the 2nd PCF crash that PP lost any momentum it had going. I also had no way to get a redirect, which as we can see here is a pretty key component. I admittedly made some poor decisions; however at least from "the owners" perspective the one two punch that really hurt PP the most was, lack of a redirect at the start, and PCF's "last gasp" killing the momentum, after a lot of people beyond myself worked their asses off to start getting people back.

I post this not as a poor me, but so that users can understand that Ueberman is almost certainly doing a TON of stuff behind the scenes that never is noticed, and that in order for this place to flourish it NEEDS its users to get out there and spread the word. It is EXTREMELY hard to get a popular NON-PARTISON forum going. Especially in a post Huffington Post/Every other political site out there era.
