Loss of life has been relatively low so far, but I fear that's going to start changing quickly.

People will continue to live there. No place on the planet is totally safe from disaster. The name Harvey will probably be retired, like Katrina.

the problem is associating it with climate change. don't. it's irresponsible. you're right, you're not a climatologist. you also apparently can't google as you decided to proclaim that the waters were warmer because of climate change when they are below historical averages

this means that even without climate change, this is a problem

the major cause of the problem is the same problem as why it's so f**k hot in pheonix: urban development. it's hot in pheonix -- more so than it used to be -- mainly because it doesn't cool down at night. it doesn't cool down at night anymore because of roads and people and air conditioners and heat being pumped out. so it's far worse than it used to be, when at night it would cool down into the 50s even if it was the 100s during the day

this is different urban development of course. houston is the 4th largest city in this nation. it sprawls outwards towards the coast. and as humans destroy the natural buffers against hurricanes, we are left with increasingly bad scenarios. we do need to have some sorts of mitigation for it.

fine, these flooding events, while not as bad as this one, have had several in the last few years that nearly rival the catastrophe that is this year's storm. and so we need to address this with infrastructure projects. this is a prime candidate for infrastructure spending that trump wanted to talk about before he kept on talking about how nazis aren't that bad
