this has the possibility to be a real game changer. security and surveillance in europe is going to radically change, the refugee situation is going to radically change. and i expect french military intervention is going to radically change.

yeah. this is 9/11 again.

coordinated attacks on mutliple soft targets. absolutely horrific.

with europe already crazy over the muslims immigrants, this will put a full stop on that. and they will target the terrorist safe havens. with russian airline being downed a week ago, and the carnage on the streets of paris today, its only a matter of time before this thing happens in america.

the terrorist attacks of 9/11 was the first time the nato security arragenment with an attack on one being an attack on all was put into place. there's a possibility that this will happen again, and we'll have nato forces in syria and iraq within a few months

i was thinking the same thing. ISIS is already claiming responsibility, and being that they're a state, this very likely will involve NATO action. not only that but this very well could shift europe extremely far to the right, which has ramifications for the EU as a whole.

this is going to be bad.

yeah it's an act of war. unquestionably.

obama just this morning said that ISIS has been contained. I'm not so sure about that, but by election day I think they will have ceased to exist. some members may still be alive but their power will be gone

I hope a grand response is meted out, however I remain skeptical. You'd of thought the assassination of those journalists, less than a year ago, would of roused them from their sleep.

france is the only other nation on earth with a nuclear carrier. france has been launching strikes in syria. france has been launching strikes on terrorists in africa as well. they had ground troops in mali. i'm not going to blame them for not nuking syria after charlie hebdo. what they didn't do, what they didn't have the stomach for, was ground intervention in syria. that will change overnight. as ISIS claims to be a state, and claims responsibility, a state has attacked france, and all of nato will respond

We'll see. Honestly, we've been watching depravity that makes this Paris attack look like a stubbed toe for years now. And done nothing of any consequence.

because none of it was done to a NATO nation on their own soil. that's a fairly big distinction.

On that note...I wonder what the legal argument over NATO response is. I'm not aware that anyone who matters has recognized ISIS as a state. And ISIS doesn't seem to be officially claiming responsibility. So really, does the mutual defense requirement come into play here?

On the other hand, 9/11 was ruled a legit invocation of it...and that was entirely a non-state actor.
