Pretty big difference between venerating those who founded your nation and venerating those who rebelled against your nation and lead her into her deadliest war.

Nah it's more about perspective. It makes sense to venerate violent traitors whose violent treachery lead to the creation of our country. It makes less sense to venerate violent traitors whose violent treachery was directed against our country.
I'll borrow a page from NAB's book and ask if I should communicate this in 1s and 0s, as you're seeming a little on the spectrum with this line of argumentation amigo.
