this is likely just distraction from the worst ever GDP numbers in one quarter, as trump lacks the authority to do this

but lets look at it

absentee voting is fine but mail in voting, the exact same thing, is fraudulent. but most importantly, it's too unsafe to vote in person, but we need to send kids to schools

why do we send kids to schools? so both their parents can work to support them of course, and we can get the economy back on track!

anyway, i know he's sending shock troops on the streets to kidnap us citizens and shit like that these days too. if the election is delayed, a military coup to install the senate pro tempore (who would be a democrat, since all of them should lose their seats on january 3 except 2/3rds of the senate) on january 20 would be in order. so that's fun to think about... by the way, i would accept at that point, if the election is delayed, the idea that i am living in a failed state. i would be, it would need to be remade entirely. i have spent a long time thinking about and creating an updated version of the constitution, and one which i think is necessary anyway but with a delayed election it would be required to reestablish these united states

Every single American citizen has an absolute obligation to vote this man out of office, and an obligation to convince others to vote this man out of office. A vote for Trump is a vote for treason.

There never has been a reason for rules like this and yet the "reasonable" republicans you guys talked up for so long have basically the same position. It only seems crazy now because we know Trump is a lunatic, but you idiots will be fooled when paul ryan explains it in a calm voice with completely made-up numbers.

Trump is also an idiot, republicans are counting on massive numbers of people being too afraid to go to the polls and unable to vote via mail-in ballot. There is literally no level of disenfranchisement that would cause them to say the election wasn't fair. That is the real risk, Mitch isn't stupid or crude enough to move the election. But when voting goes sideways on Nov 3rd and trump wins a few swing states by razor margins on the back of low CIVD turnout, huge disenfranchisement, and general incompetence in managing the electoral process (plus whatever else foreigners are cooking up, and they obviously are), thats where the problem will be.

I don't think voting should be mandatory, but every citizen should be registered just by being a citizen. If you want IDs around it, that's fine with me, but every citizen, just by being a citizen, should get an ID for free. We can tie that ID to the absentee vote and even as part of multi factor authentication for remote voting (after serious testing of course). I mean if everyone has an ID and you were sent something with another passphrase I think it could work fine. Or I guess just tie it to requesting the absentee ballot itself. it's really appalling that registration to vote even has to happen. Of course it's in the south where it's difficult to do it -- northern states have motor voter laws that register you without having to do anything other than get an ID card, which you kinda have to do if you want to get a job, drive a car, use a bank, rent a home, buy alcohol, participate in society generally, etc

He just got another pass for something that SHOULD be the top news story for all media outlets. Bravo.

GDP numbers are at the top in most places - I want the media to keep highlighting the economy. Without the GOP agreeing on more stimulus and soon there's 33 million people out there that will be looking for somebody to blame. That will fall on Trump and the Senate GOP. The Dems want to pass bills to keep states afloat, more stimulus bills, continue unemployment supplemental payments, etc.

To make the difference between the GOP and Dems using those criteria will help out greatly during the election when everybody knows somebody out of a job.

I mean, it's serious in the sense that the President brought it up, but I'm not aware of any attempt by Congress to delay the election. And that's who can do such a thing. So I don't know if I'd characterise it as serious outside the fact that POTUS is batshit insane.

You know what, nevermind, this objection sounded better before I typed it up.

I'm with Galt on US not being a failed state yet though.
