the woopie filter is worse here. woopie fix it
by this i mean... is there an option to turn it off that a user can set? i don't care if it's on for default but there ought be an option to turn it offhttp://www.rmcgirr83.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1414
it's not what the user was asking for but it explains (i think) that under admin control panel, users and groups, you can choose the group, the user permissions, then post, then "can disable word censor = yes"
i suggest for all the words just put in something like *%$# for those users that have the censor on. that way, you know it's censored. but that's me.
Well thats certainly a possibility. That works for most online games and such but the difference is, most of the time people aren't discussing politics in online games (except WoW - when its not on Chuck Norris). I've seen many posts that had good content but because the fbomb comes out every other word, its vulgar and trashy to read. Being adult doesn't mean being vulgar. Sometimes, vulgarity fits when used sparingly but when you look at certain other political sites that allow all the trash talk, look what the threads devolve into.
The word filter is set to a word so that people can at least read what is being used. If I put !@!# you don't know if I just said "shit" or "f*ck" or whatever so it takes time away from the reading of the post to try and figure out what was said.
But yeah changing the filtered words somehow is something to look at.
There is a way to allow users to turn the filter on and off and can be changed pretty easily, however, just like in most online games, you are still not supposed to swear. And my feeling here is that people would swear like sailors most of the time (due to heated exchange) and we'd be no different than those other political forums out there that allow it. And then we'd get into potential moderator issues of "well so and so said f*ck 4 times and I said it 3, why did I get edited for it and he didn't"?
