Any chance we could get "eTech" skin? I've used that on PP for a long time and used to it. :ympray:

the f**k filter is worse here. f**k fix it

by this i mean... is there an option to turn it off that a user can set? i don't care if it's on for default but there ought be an option to turn it off

http://www.rmcgirr83.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1414

it's not what the user was asking for but it explains (i think) that under admin control panel, users and groups, you can choose the group, the user permissions, then post, then "can disable word censor = yes"

i suggest for all the words just put in something like *%$# for those users that have the censor on. that way, you know it's censored. but that's me.

Don't know how much you know about phpbb themes so sorry if I go into too much detail. phpbb has Subsilver2 and Prosilver based themes. Mods that people create for phpbb typically have instructions for both Subsilver2 and Prosilver but some do not. And the problem is, some of the mods we have installed now do not have very clear instructions (some none at all, some have a few users that try) to make the changes. So lets say we have a mod that has no instructions for how to make the mod work with Subsilver2. You can go through the Prosilver edits and figure out what needs to be changed, but it takes a very long time to do typically.

So if we have Subsilver2 and Prosilver on the site, I would ideally want to have all mods working on both themes so people can choose what they want without losing functionality. But if I can't get those edits in, then I'll probably remove that theme.

TL;DR answer - possibly if I can get all of the mods to work on the eTech (subsilver2 base) theme. If its going to take a very long time, probably not and we'll likely just stick with Prosilver themes.

Well thats certainly a possibility. That works for most online games and such but the difference is, most of the time people aren't discussing politics in online games (except WoW - when its not on Chuck Norris). I've seen many posts that had good content but because the fbomb comes out every other word, its vulgar and trashy to read. Being adult doesn't mean being vulgar. Sometimes, vulgarity fits when used sparingly but when you look at certain other political sites that allow all the trash talk, look what the threads devolve into.

The word filter is set to a word so that people can at least read what is being used. If I put !@!# you don't know if I just said "shit" or "f*ck" or whatever so it takes time away from the reading of the post to try and figure out what was said.

But yeah changing the filtered words somehow is something to look at.

There is a way to allow users to turn the filter on and off and can be changed pretty easily, however, just like in most online games, you are still not supposed to swear. And my feeling here is that people would swear like sailors most of the time (due to heated exchange) and we'd be no different than those other political forums out there that allow it. And then we'd get into potential moderator issues of "well so and so said f*ck 4 times and I said it 3, why did I get edited for it and he didn't"?

i think there is a difference between using colorful language and using swear words to attack a person

there's some i never say, but i use f**k all the f**k time. i don't think it's wrong to use it. if i am okay with seeing swear words, why shouldn't i be able to? i think it's a good change to be able to turn it off.

if the contention is "whoopie" is better than "@$%!" because it takes away from reading the post, the same can be true if you're attempting to read it with "whoopie".

f**k the f**k f**k

what did i just say?

i used a verb an adjective and a noun

you don't know that, i could have just said verb the noun noun

i think it's annoying as f**k to see the filter. i'd prefer not to, and i think many others would as well. if you're dead set on having filters, i think a user option (which from what i think is baseline available functionality) would be a good thing

i'm saying ti's a user option to see other people's swears. you could swear and if the filter is on another person would still see it filtered. but they could swear, they would see it filtered, but if you had your option to not see it you would see what they actually wrote. i think the link i provided might be confusing because the person was asking for ability for certain users to swear without filters globally. i agree that's dumb and not what im asking for

More what I was saying is that !@#!% can't be read so you don't know what word is being used. Words substituted can be read. Just like on PP, everyone quickly realized what Sacrebleu was. And right now, the word filter isn't exactly set up to be perfect as it is - it was just setting it up. So ultimately it would be something like motherwhooping, whooping shit, whooped, etc. Even if you didn't know exactly what the word was replacing, you could read it and get the idea.

Anyways, I think enabling people to be able to turn the filter on and off is something worth looking into. We just don't want the forum to turn into the others where its a constant swearing match and people don't post without using profanity.
