I'm not opposed to putting it up top if people think it would be better and it doesn't cause problems. My fear in putting it up top originally is that visitors to the forum would see it and think it was a chat instead of a forum. That can probably be fixed with code if its not built in (ie only logged in users can see chat module).

The flood limit can be looked at but I'm not sure the refresh needs to be any sooner. If its an issue, I can look at it. This mod is technically a shoutbox, not a chat.

As far as future chats...if we get to the point of having a VM instead of a hosting package, its worth looking into. But as you point out, most of those are old and the code is extremely inefficient. I really don't want to spend my time on broken chats trying to get them working and fix code issues (due to the code being 4+ years old without any updates available). Security issues also arise with an old, out of date chat client.

Some have suggested an IRC room but I'm not in favor of this myself as it presents a lot of problems but mainly that someone could end up taking over the room and start banning/bullying people. Personally, I want something that integrates into the forum so users are "logged in" already and limits placed on the board also take affect in chat.

Lastly, if you didn't know, you can click on the "mini-chat" link up top in the header and it'll open a larger window and chat will be at the top of the screen. Not sure how many people have tried it.

Ultimately, we want something that works and isn't taxing on the forums. If an option comes up that I haven't seen before, I'm all ears.
