Sigmund Freud defined four parts of a psyche; the id, the ego, the superego and the stratego. The Stratego being the highest form of morality and scientific thinking.

The South Vietnamese government was too corrupt and incompetent to hold it together.

Militarily the US did win the war. They lost it politically, which is still a loss, but for different reasons.

Vietnam was only lost in Washington. We absolutely had superior everything to the NVA. We slaughtered them.

Well ok? As long as it's acknowledged and understood that the US military didn't lose the war, than the question in the OP is answered.
