Saying we don't need guns because we have cops is like saying we don't need fire extinguishers because we have firemen.

It's not so much that they need immunity. It more that protecting or otherwise assisting individuals is simply not their job.
Their job is law enforcement.

It's just PR. People wouldn't feel as good if slogans were truthful.
