but i think it's exactly the substance of the dialectic that separates him from hegel. merely using a dialectic in which to frame his ideas does not make him hegelian.

That's not the framework for Hegel's dialectic though. That's but an elementary observation about conflicting forces and resolution, a triviality hardly unique to Hegel or his dialectic.
