So, I've been working on an old triple channel motherboard with a dead DIMM slot on the primary channel. I cannot get the board to recognize any other slots on the other channel.

The board has 6 slots, 3 of each matched into two channels. System will not POST with one stick in any single secondary slot.

But...both BIOS and Windows will register 4gigs with one stick of the three in a secondary slot, meaning they ignore the other slot....while CPU-Z will recognize all 6 gigs. Meaning the secondary slots are functional. Only one dead slot on the board, and its a primary.

The two fucntional primary slots are running in dual channel, and I can't get the system to recognize the other slots at all. Nothing useful in BIOS.

hesays windows doesn't recognize the ram in the secondary channel. are you putting it in the first secondary slot position? i think triple channel required at least two sticks to operate though, which could very well be the issue: you need two sticks in the secondary in order to get it to work, too http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-chan ... chitecture

Gah. Site got buggy and I lose first attempt.

I tried that with the second channel, but the second channel is not responsive with either 1, 2, or all 3 sticks by itself.

Right now, I can boot with 1 or both of the working slots on channel 1, even if I add the third stick anywhere in channel 2 at the same time. But only CPU-Z sees the ram in that case. BIOS and Windows both see only channel 1.

I am more of a visual person when it comes to hardware - which one of those is the dead one and how are you setting up the RAM around that?
