Maybe they should take their little canisters (living quarters) to Antarctica for a few years, then check the desire to make it permanent. Why bother trying to live on another planet when we can't even live on this one in peace? Robots/probes will probably be our space explorers for some time to come. But we will go if for no other reason then the wow factor.

antarica is differently inhospitable. you cant do mining operations on antartica easily, for example, while on mars it would be relatively simple, after you're there. antartica has one resource -- water -- that mars lacks a lot of. however, there is still likely a lot that can be extracted from the soil, which in turn will allow for humans to live there. robots and probes have been our explorers for a long time already. it's destiny for man to colonize this entire solar system

Can one of you describe for me why we would ever want colonize mars?
