Kinda seems like you're being too cynical about this. What do they gain from serving this under serviced market? If, as you routinely point out, Apple users don't know how to computer, than who exactly is Cook appealing to? Android users? Doesn't really make any sense.

Apple allows users to choose to share that data if they want to with those apps. It's almost annoying how often iOS asks me if I want to share my location or some other user data. They're just calling Google and other user-data/advertising companies out for indiscriminately selling user data. They can do that.

Patching security bugs or whatever that's just trumped up nonsense.

Putting school essays from Pages to iCloud is just not a big deal at all. And you can also turn all of that off. They didn't (unless there was a system error) relocate documents to iCloud and delete them from your personal computer. I actually do use those services. Either way it's, again, nbd. Not like they're scanning through my essays on Carl Sagan to put a gmail banner up asking me if I want to buy books about Carl Sagan.

Google doesn't care that much about privacy. They try to protect user data from falling into the wrong hands, and that's fine and expected, but it's Google having it which is the scary part. I am glad that we live in a world where people can opt to give away their data in exchange for a service, I just think that the trade off is that people are being taken advantage of, mostly unknowingly. Facebook by far being the worst, followed by the rest of the social media companies: Twitter, Snapchat, Pintrest, etc... .

The Ford comparison is nonsense. Apple is actually in the privacy industry, Ford isn't in the diamond industry. The rest of your post about interacting with customer data I don't really know what you're referring to.

It's not concerning at all lol because you just turn it off, or don't turn it on in the first place. I find it strange that you don't care about gigantic corporate conglomerates aggregating and selling data that pertains to you, personally. It's good to at least know what you're doing, which is why it's even stranger that you don't care, but I would think that most people have no idea what "free" means for many of these services.

You're being facetious. A gig of privacy makes 0 sense in any context. They're involved in privacy because phones are communication and commerce tools, and they develop hardware and software tools to privatize and secure that data. For example, encrypting iMessage and FaceTime as mentioned above. So the Ford thing is still not applicable here. Because Ford has no involvement with the diamond trade, whereas Apple is very involved in customer security.
