There has been a lot of talk about the various comments on rape, but nobody is viewing the real reason these comments exist. In no case did the politicians deny that rape exists, or that rape was bad, what they did do is add descriptives or qualifiers to the term.

Why?

Simply because the modern legal definition of rape has been stretched to include things they do not believe is rape.

I can sympathize, it is very difficult for a male to operate in the current world of sex laws, a woman can be screaming "yes, yes" at night only to wake up in the morning and scream "RAPIST"
And outside of video, which is illegal to take, there is no strong defense for a male, its a credibility war in a society which views sex as dirty or immoral, and even if not convicted the reputational stain can follow him forever.


I submit that pretty much everybody already knows or suspects this and are just doing the whole "sound bite" thing to vent manufactured outrage, like when Obama said "You didnt build that" and meant infrastructure, and Romeny said "I like being able to fire people" and meant the ability to choose service providers if he is unhappy with the service received. But both were intentionally bloated to mean things that were not stated or even intended.

Why do people fall for this kind of crap?

Because the motivation behind the rape rhetoric is trying to find cracks to drive a wedge in between women and their most basic personal liberties.

Am I to assume from your cryptic comments that it is about abortion, that actually makes intentionally misunderstanding them into rape comments worse.

Its all about abortion. A key argument for abortion is pregnancy caused by rape. Some immoral politicians take an extreme (and completely idiotic) stance that abortion is never acceptable...and so in order to make such a radical position make even a little sense, they've come up with one crazy-assed thing to say about rape after another for a really embarrassing amount of time now.

They need to get themselves the hell out of other people's sex and reproduction habits before we all collectively throw up.

That opens up yet another can of worms. These very same legislators don't much care for contraception either, or even teaching kids about safe sex. Millions of students every year have sex ed that amounts to: Don't have sex, period.

"Abstinence only" they call it. Then they get upset when they wind up with higher teen pregnancy rates. (But Em, don't blame it on the guys. Takes two to tango.)

Madness.

We are seriously paying a nasty price for all our bizarre puritanical sexual hangups over here.
