See the show Continuum on netflix for an example of that type of society from contemporary fiction

Fascism comes from the Italian word "fascio" which means a bundle of sticks. The idea is that one stick is weak, but together they're strong. If libertarians decide to unite then they're also fascist.

many people are fascists. they just don't say that these days because of the association with racism and death and destruction, but it's not necessary to be that way. instead they say things like they are a "moderate who loves their country and supports mixed economies". fascists when it was fashionable would have talked about their third way in the economical world, not liberal and open and free, nor was it state mandated, but in between, getting the best of both worlds. and lots of people support this to this day, and would probably get all offended if you called them out on being the fascist pigs they are
