yeah well it will probably be more of the same shit like rogue one: no story, no character development, no emotional connection with any character except for maybe the comic relief robot

Starting to sound like the former directors had been wandering off script and taking this in a direction nobody else wanted. Apparently the actor they got playing Solo acting raised the alarm after he was asked to do a bunch of green screen slap stick comedy routine shit.
Eiger and Kennedy were probably watching the dailies through the gaps between their fingers. It sounds like the directors had decided to get spoofy and goofball with this thing...and got told to pack their bags. This could be pretty good news. Kasdan is probably calling shots here. Howard might just be filling a chair.

yeah but the lego movie was good, unlike say, Rogue One.the lego movie had character development, a plot, and emotional involvement with the lego characters because the movie had heart, which is all juxtaposed against the terrible movie that was rogue one. it also had slapstick so this doesn't mean slapstick is bad. it's a kids movie (star wars. star wars is a kids movie.); it shouldn't be so srs.

Doesn't need to be overly serious. Star Wars has always had weird humor. Just shouldn't be a ridiculous parody of itself. It's easy to go too far. The Lego movie was always going to be ridiculous...because it's a feature film about legos. It was fun because it was self-aware. I think older movies could get away with more goofball comedy. C-3PO became a beloved character because of the 1970's audience and their apparent tolerance for that sort of thing. Nowadays he'd have been torpedoed by audiences as quickly as Jar Jar was. At least threeprio wasn't a cartoon doing fart jokes, backflips, stepping in shit gags, and getting kicked in the balls.
There is a certain reverence and respect due a character like Han Solo. Been iconic for generations now. Probably not the best vehicle for a 3 stooges routine. If the rumors are true, it sounds like it was getting pretty bad. They don't just bounce directors halfway through shooting for no reason. They might lock them out of the editing room and do reshoots. But to push the "HELL NO." button halfway through a shoot? Pretty serious. It would almost be better start over and eat a hundred million dollars in losses than to ask some new director to piece together the wreckage.
(I'm betting Ron Howard is sitting in a room right now looking at what's already done and facepalming.)
