Any of you peeps watching this one? Big recovery from the season 2 disaster imho. Got its flaws, but I’m really into it. Ali is great (as he is in everything he does), but Stephen Dorff is killing it.

Yeah, watched the first episode. Will definitely finish out the series, just not sure when as I finally talked the Mrs into watching Lost (which neither of us have ever seen).

I really like it.

I didn't even make it through two whole episode of Season Two before quitting, and since my disdain was almost universally shared, I figured that would just be the end of the series. Then when I found out a third season was coming out, I went into it with super low expectations, anticipating that they'd do better than the second season, but fundamentally were probably still lost in the shadow of the their Season One masterpiece.

They really did get their shit back together though. They managed to write and cast new main characters who are unique and distinct from the first season, while still having the signature macabre grittiness to their personalities/stories that make this feel like a legitimate successor to the first season. They also returned to the season one story telling device of jumping between three different timelines, which I enjoy a lot. If the series continues, I hope this becomes a standard for all future seasons, as it seems to just work, and helps make True Detective seasons feel like entries in a larger anthology series, rather than just multiple free-standing miniseries.

Interested to see how this season ends. The first season concluded with an anti-climactic ending to the detectives' pursuit of a dark and sinister criminal network, instead emphasizing the way that this long journey had altered the harsh lives of these two men. Lots of people felt that it was a cop out, but I liked it. However, I don't think it'll be satisfying to just reprise that type of ending again, so I'm expecting this one to go somewhere very different by the season finale.

I'm a couple episodes in. I really like it. I don't know why but I'm expecting an M. Night twist at the end of this season.
