Honestly, it looks like Comey did Clinton a lot more damage than good by letting her off the hook. Its preferable to indictment, obviously, but she is going to be buried under "another Clinton is above the law and makes a scandal go away blah blah" from here on out. And its not going away. Comey did an end run around Lynch and the DoJ by taking it upon himself to publicly drop the bomb, and phrase it just so. Lynch would have simply reported the recommendation and been done with it, rather than spending 15 minutes verbally spanking Clinton in language specifically designed for soundbyte construction. Of course, this is expected of Comey, a Republican and Bush appointee. People are rattling along about a "miscarriage of justice" and whatever...but this has done serious damage to her campaign regardless.

I'm actually pleased to see Clinton take at least some sort of punishment from all of this. She would have gone scot free, and Comey knew it.

Well it doesn't matter because Trump of course is misplacing his hand here. If he framed it as a system where political royalty are beyond consequences, it could be compelling, but instead he attacks Comey individually and suggests a grand conspiracy.
