Another shocking thing, I've just realised. Arriva a train company in Britain is owned by Deutsche Bahn, (the German state owned operator). So in essence the German government makes money from a rail network the British government subsidises

Basically we just have a ridiculously inefficient system compared to these other state ran systems.
