Well yeah, all democracies need to try and avoid the creation of a political elite, it rather undermines the whole thing. America isn't alone in having a society divided up into the rulers and the ruled. It's a problem we all have, America suffers more because of her electoral system.
I'm finding this story increasingly interesting because the more this Snowden guy speaks the less he backs up what the Guardian have claimed.
Yesterday he was saying that the US government does have filters in place to prevent them from collecting data on US citizens - he just said they can be circumvented (which is obvious, any filter can be circumvented if you want to). That actually contradicts what the Guardian claimed.
If he is genuine, then the Guardian either have another source or are exploiting him to make their own point.

there's an easy fix to this whole thing. Just make a law stating that intel gained through this program can only be used for military and foreign intelligence (CIA) purposes.
they won't do this because they want the option of using it for domestic law enforcement though.

The only thing I want to hear about this is that spying on US citizens is going to stop immediately and the people doing it are going to be prosecuted. An apology, as well.
Why are people acting like this isn't illegal? The government needs a warrant to conduct domestic surveillance. If they don't have this they have broken the law.

In point of fact the program is operated under court supervision. Kinda trumps a warrant.
But hey. Lets just call it illegal anyways. Because we get to decide what's legal on the fly, as opposed to the judiciary.
