You assume intelligence is an important quality to be president. Carter was highly intelligent and Reagan was pretty dumb. Regardless of what you think of Reagan's political views, he was a much more successful executive than Carter.

That unfortunately is true although Clinton might be the exception.

Obama is obviously intelligent but Jesus...

I don't think there's much correlation one way or another. Being a good executive is a skill set independent of IQ.

Nixon: not dumb but crazy
Ford: LOL
Carter: smart but ineffective
Reagan: not complex but certainly played the shit out of that role, even as he was lapsing into dementia (which he was, scarily)
GHWB: looking back now, a smart guy and totally underrated considering what's come since
Clinton: smart, also underrated by ugh, the cheeseball factor after a while
GWB: probably the low point in my lifetime when it comes to intelligence and world view and being ideologically an empty container (although Cheney was really the president)
Obama: sigh. Where to even begin?
