also, laughing at the idea that women's studies, etc. are "useless" majors. they like any other field help develop analytical and critical thinking skills which can be applied to other areas such as ngos, grant organizations, businesses, and so on. in fact, corporations for example are now hiring ethnographers trained in social theory to understand various kinds of consumer preferences. the idea that just because you chose a particular major your career path is "done" even though you won't probably even end up going into that field, is laughable. it's the same kind of instrumental thinking that got us into this economic mess, without looking at the larger social reality.
