yeah the interesting thing about the nsa scandal isn't necessarily that they're individually identifying social deviants or "communists" like in the 50s but rather that they have access to massive patterns of data in the aggregate, which still violates basic privacy.

interesting to us, for sure, but unless it's actionable or leads to something that is most cops wouldn't find that that kind of individual information interesting.
i think mainly they are storing data so they can go back and look at it if something happens so they can catch whoever did it and for statistical analysis etc.
