How can this be analyzed without knowing anything about the city itself?
It's rather meaningless when people make dialectic suppositions on international affairs. There's no endogenous value, only circular speculation.

At the rate little ol' Shenzhen is growing, Hong Kong will eventually become incorporated into The Greater Shenzhen-Guangzhou Co-Dominion.

Btw, the last time I was in Hong Kong I was told by one of my clients that some politician there is accused of being a PRC "spy" by the local. I think it was the Mayor or somesuch.
Not literally a spy, but someone WAY too cozy with the PRC.
