Hell, half the reason this 'bust' has gone on so long is that the markets are not being allowed to correct (largely because this would be horrible) due to intervention. Though the crash would have been infinitely more intense and resulted in 1930'ies if not more levels in falls of welfare (E.g had banks actually been allowed to fail), as the market cycle (tends) towards more intense crashes resulting in quicker recoveries. Your entire point is quite frankly, empty rhetoric.

A "mixed" economy is still one that features private ownership of capital, thus it is indeed a capitalist system that dominates the world's economic landscape.

If there is no profit motive involved in production and distribution "market" confidence is irrelevant. Free market "economic" theories are basically nothing more than a ruse to justify continued irresponsible use of society's economic power for the personal enrichment of a few at the expense of everyone else. This makes them inherently unstable.

A system that is based on financial exploitation cannot possibly be economically stable. At some point there is going to be a rebellion. If you manage to totally suppress that somehow with violence and/or psychological manipulation you will see that society begin to disintegrate as the bonds that hold individuals together are stripped away in the struggle for survival.

What Sparse said. People are forgetting Democratic Socialism (well even Social liberalism, aka D.L George's people's budget) has been a very dominant force in socio-economics in Britannia for a while now.

Not as easy for the old rhetorical dichotomy, but hey, reality never is.

Most European states are very much social democracies and it is that very fact which is driving the current economic crisis. Because governments play such a large role in the economy as soon as they have to cut back on spending because their debts are too high the knock-on effects within the domestic (and regional) economy are huge.

What we are witnessing in Europe at the moment is not any kind of crisis of capitalism, it is a crisis of social democracy.
