There isn't going to be any resolution in either case.
trump lost the vote. By millions. His approval rating is in the 30's and has been nearly the entire time he's been in office. There is no possible upside for trump in any of this. Even if they can't prove any technical illegality (because things aren't wrong unless they are illegal, right?) it's not going to somehow legitimize a seriously unpopular president who is well known to be in office against the wishes of the American people.
Even if it works out in trump's favor, there will be no "Told ya so!" except in trump's mind and on his twitter feed. Well, and amongst his base, who frankly have been sequestered and have no concept of what's going on. Lots of things slide off of slime. We're all going to know better regardless.
