it's true she did write this https://github.com/achael/eht-imaging/b ... arwarps.py and probably did most of the work for that, which i think is very important contribution to her subteam which was one of several subteams that all created the image. i'm not denying that. i am denying that she alone did this, which the media has decided to go along with the internet and politicians like alexandria cortez who say things about subjects they have no business talking about, only so they can talk about their message of women being awesome and we don't need men. yeah, she make that all with her vagina? sex is irrelevant in science positions

Can't we just celebrate an amazing achievement, even going so far as to highlight individual people involved, without everyone going off somehow?

All of this dramatic bullshit is obscuring the fact that our species has managed to take a picture of a blackhole. The appropriate reaction is awe, maybe even intense pride in what we apes can achieve when we're not busy abusing one another.

So, I have a simple proposition: how about we let people celebrate this however they want? So a woman, rightly or wrongly, gets put on a pedestal - who cares? She deserves her moment, just as much as anyone. So what if her contributions were larger or smaller? Who cares if a politician or person on Twitter puts their own spin on it? Just put that shit aside and marvel at it. It isn't worth ruining the moment with a hot take.

i'm mad because i almost ate the onion about this thing and sent it off to a friend of mine to celebrate her achievement, but i wanted to read what she actually did and then i realized she was just one cog in the machine. which is fine and dandy but the articles say is the person who did it, which torqued me off. i don't give a shit that it was a woman. actually, i do, in that, i wouldn't have sent it to my friend (also a woman, and a fellow software engineer) if it wasn't a woman. but i couldn't in good faith celebrate her achievement as hers alone when it wasn't hers to celebrate alone. but everywhere you look on social media there are people saying she did it and then if you disagree you're called a f**k incel. no f**k you dylan

you're right to say it's awesome. this has been an amazing week for space related stuff, with this, the spacex docking, the spacex heavy landing, and well... i guess isreal didn't make it to the moon, but 3 out of 4 ain't bad
