There are no innocents. We have all collectively failed this great nation. Mother America has given us so much and in return we have forsaken her and upturned her proud and majestic history. This is not our original sin, but it is our greatest sin and we are all guilty to the very core for this travesty and blasphemy.

America is just but she is fair. She will not let this slight slide; nor should she. Her vengeance will come and we will all reap the whirlwind.

The blame lies squarely with anyone stupid enough to support a Clinton run after 2008. Centrist Democrats made this mess. They refused to listen to reason despite being warned for over two years. Instead they put up a truly terrible candidate and expected people to vote for her for no other reason than their feelings on the matter.

It's symbolic, fstar. Obviously Trump isn't going to bring down the Union. He'll flex it a bit, he'll certainly push division to its farthest extent since the Civil War, I think it's fair to say. The trouble is that all of this awful he's doing reminds us of how close that past still trails us. We fought for half a century to move past the sorts of things we're now seeing again...and it disgusts us how quickly it can all come rushing back despite our collective, mutli-generational efforts to grow past it. Trump forces us to look at the side of ourselves that we always leave in shadow.

Trump is that UV light they use to expose jizz stains all over the motel room comforter. But instead of acting disgusted, he grabs the jizz blanket, wraps himself up in it, and jerks off all over it, gleefully. It's this reckless abandon with which he finds, amplifies, and celebrates our social failures that we hate him for, more than anything.

Will he bring down the Republic? No. Will he force us to really look at ourselves? Yes. Contrasted with Obama, his polar opposite in practically every way, he seems so f**k small, and yet entirely relevant. We hate that.

Fstar does bring up a good point. We've been shitty plenty of times in the past. This does not excuse or alleviate the shittiness that is going on right now, but it makes the libs screaming "THIS IS SO UNAMERICAN!!!" look pretty silly and naive. This is all very American. We get like this sometimes. Now it has to be dealt with again.

the republic has already been brought down. outside of the electoral college (which itself is flawed because it involves voting for candidates and forces electors to be beholden to the will of the mob) there's nothing holding back the horror of democracy. senators are directly elected. reid already went nuclear so that means... mcconnell goes MAD. democracy rules the day. some say "good! now lets do it for the president!" and it makes me hold my head in my hands. this is not good, not good at all
