i'll have you know that when i was in 3rd grade I won a poetry contest with an award winning haiku about sailing (something i've never done, even since). i got a really cool pen which i think is still at my parents, with the seal of california on it, and it was published in a children's calendar. the governor was supposed to show up to the award ceremony but cancelled, the asshole. it was a statewide thing to make the calendar, with 12 pieces of art and 12 poems. i thought my picture was better, but it didn't win. i wrote the poem under duress as the teacher said we had to submit both poems and artwork. so what i'm saying is i'm a published poet
