Things kinda like this have happened before but the 24 hour news cycle and informational overload is a fairly recent phenomonen.

We are not prepared to handle our current connectivity and it shows. While the benefit may outweigh the harm, the changes the internet has wrought have been deeply damaging to society and quality of life.

Good thing they invented the OFF button when you need a break. Move from virtual reality to reality at the push of a button.

In high school, I was looking for a class that I thought would be an easy pass, and would be pretty low-effort. The class I settled on was media literacy. It was actually one of the classes I enjoyed most in high school, and I thought everybody derived some benefit from it. We covered stuff like:

- Understanding technical design decisions, and how they impact the brain (colours, jolts, jump scares, etc.)
- Recognize bias, spin and information in articles, regardless of whether you agree or disagree
- Techniques of persuasion
- Critical thinking
- Targeting, demographics, market research, consumer profiling

This was before social media, but you can easily adjust the curriculum above to suit that topic as well.

Also, shout out to Mr. Cook for letting us watch Natural Born Killers in class.

The biggest thing missing in media today is integrity.
