as i'm sure we'll talk about guns anyway, i'd like to talk about the real weapons in this attack, the internet and memes

they live streamed mass murder. the 90 page manifesto is memes, and if you read the words it is meant to cause division and meant to try and get people to do copycat attacks. yes, he used a shotgun. but the shotgun had neo-nazi memes all over it. which was shown on the internet, live

generally i'd like to say that these people are mentally ill, and by that i mean crazy. but this seems to be very intentional, and the ramblings intended to seem crazy but also divisive. oh i'm sure he's delusional, and those delusions have been filled in the echo chamber of the internet. other people not involved in the shooting itself are culpable in that their words are in those pages. he met these people through the internet, the internet which brings this small minority of people together and amplifies their voice and gives them a sense of belonging and purpose and murderous intent. the words are like ISIS's words, meant to try and cause civil wars everywhere. and you know what? give it two weeks. we'll get the attempt at the copycat. hopefully it will get put down, because then it will die back, but if it's not this will keep on going, especially if the body count gets higher. more livestreamed murder on the internet with rambling fanatics spouting off memes to try and get more copycats, and trying to create division and civil war

all of these leads to one inescapable truth: we must ban the internet. it is the only appropriate action, since it's the weapon of choice

I agree that the internet is what is expediting and catalyzing this stuff, but obviously not causing it. There are a lot of other things that are only actually gaining any meaningful traction because of the easy exchange of disinformation. Look at the anti-vaxxers, the media conspiracy/fake news thing, the flat earthers, etc. Even moon landing hoax believers...shooting through the roof. Used to be a rather fringe element that had always been there...but youtube has made it into a commonly held belief throughout much of the world.

Used to be if you wanted right-wing radicalism you had to seek it out. Now it's occupying the same space on everyone's devices as movie reviews and dick pills. There is no filter.

Anti-vaxxers are actively causing the deaths of children as we speak, and endangering the populations at large...but each new outbreak of whatever disease gets explained away by the internet, and doctors, who were formerly the people to ask, are now just part of the conspiracy.
