Trump's disgustingly cynical summit

1. ....How ironic that Trump would try to pass himself off as a defender of persecuted religious minorities as he does everything in his administration’s powers to disenfranchise and disempower America’s own minority populations.

This is, after all, the man who as one of his first acts upon taking office tried to institute a ban on Muslims entering the country after repeatedly calling for just such a ban while on the campaign trail.

If there were an Oscar for acting hypocritically, President Trump would be a shoo-in.

2. ...Trump was not done in painting the hellish nightmare that awaits Muslims, and our country, if he's elected president. The GOP frontrunner explained that he was open to wholesale surveillance of Muslim-Americans and warrantless searches of mosques. He even praised past NYPD policies that spied on the New York City Muslim community as "great," despite the reality that this controversial program did not yield any leads or arrests. This means that under a Trump administration, Muslims would have fewer rights than other Americans simply because of our faith, which is no different than advocating for racial profiling of blacks or Latinos.

And Trump then doubled down on his recent proclamation that he was open to shutting down American mosques, noting he'd have "absolutely no choice" if "some bad things happen" in a mosque. Consequently, if two or three people in a mosque of say 500 did "bad things," the entire mosque would be shuttered. It would be as outrageous as closing down a mega church because two or three members firebombed an abortion clinic. Our system of justice punishes specific wrongdoers, not all who simply share the same faith or race of a criminal...

3. Jim Carrey penned some poetry for his latest artistic takedown of President Donald Trump.

The actor, famed for using his politically themed cartoons to criticize the Trump administration, shared a poem on Wednesday (April 24, 2019) alongside his newest taunting image. In it, Carrey describes Trump as “the new king of lies” and likened him to the power-crazed character Jack from William Golding’s 1954 novel “Lord of the Flies.”

Let’s all drink a toast to the new king of lies,
and the minions who help him while democracy dies,
and our kids who’ll be taught that the wicked are wise
because Potus was Jack from ‘Lord of The Flies’.
How much poison are you willing to swallow?!

4. Donald Trump issued a proclamation declaring January 16, 2018, as “religious freedom day.” This date was chosen as it is the 223rd anniversary of Virginia’s enactment of the Statute for Religious Freedom.

5. In conclusion, given his notorious anti-Islamic stance and disregard for the truth, it is truly "the lie of the century" for Donald Trump to claim that the US is the “paramount champion” for religious freedom worldwide. ;)
