US President Considers Imposing Martial Law

Thank goodness for Georgia officials at the moment. They haven't folded to Trump and his conspiracy theory crap. We'll see how much this process has hurt Republicans in the senate race tomorrow but I have to wonder how differently things could have gone if they had been compliant.

I think there's a very good chance that if Georgia had decided to go along with this plan and "found" massive fraud, Trump would have called for martial law and "ordered" a halt to a change of power until the other swing states are investigated. I mean, he may still try to do this regardless, but I don't think chances of this are very high seeing as he couldn't even get Georgia to back him. He has to know at this point that the support isn't really there. I say that, but I guess one has to take his mental instability into account in this as well. Maybe he'll see the support from the Senate and House Republicans and it'll just reinforce his belief that he really did win and was cheated of a victory.

And another factor is how desperate Trump is going to be the closer we get to Jan 20th. If he thinks he is going to lose his money and go to jail, he may start taking very drastic actions. I don't have any faith that the Democrats would actually ever go after Trump, but if they make him think they are, I could see him fleeing the country at the last minute and heading straight to Russia if he doesn't think there is any chance he can try and take the country by force.

Its all a huge wildcard here. How much support would Trump get from the military up til the 20th? How much support would he actually get from the House and Senate? Is this all a huge political show for Republicans looking to garner more support by backing the President, or is this how they actually feel? I know my rep - Louie Gohmert - would do anything he can to support the President.

Then you have the senate runoff for Georgia. If Democrats do take both seats, will that put Trump's feet to the fire even more? How about his Republican allies?

The Manhattan DA office is already investigating Trump - Biden doesn't have to do anything. This was all initiated before he won the election yet alone the nomination. Whether Trump likes it or not Biden can't actually stop ongoing investigations so even if Biden doesn't start any...some will continue and he will be prosecuted.

That's why everything is up in the air and that's why Trump is losing his shit.

Not gonna lie, that is pretty delusional thinking.

No sitting or past US President will ever face prosecution, let alone jail time. The only thing that will result from NY prosecution is that the DoJ theory on presidential immunity will be adopted into the law, rather than simply assumed by custom.

Irrespective of what such a person does, they once held penultimate executive power in the US, and were the highest classification authority. There simply is no possible way Trump will ever be prosecuted.

His money? Well, he doesn't have any, and civil suits will hold, so he might not be able to get enough credit to pretend to be a billionaire. But he'll never have to worry again either way. Past Presidents make buck now.

the only one in his criminal conduct that comes close is nixon, and he got off because ford pardoned him for everything he may have done. and by this i mean both were doing criminal things for their own reelection. you can whine about war crimes or whatever but that's just doing the job, man. this isn't that. this is trying to cheat to have the job. it's very different, and he will face the music without a pardon, and even will still face the music with one because it doesn't pardon state crimes, of which he committed, and it doesn't get any mafiosos off his back

I never took Galt for an optimist. Trump isn't going to jail. The very worst that'll happen is he'll get a guilty verdict at the state level, and pay some fines. Even this completely insane tape from Georgia doesn't seem particularly prosecutable.


This guy is dirty as hell and has been for 50 years. He's managed to keep himself out of the clink this long. Being president just makes it impossible to get him behind bars where before it was just extraordinarily difficult.
