Congressional votes of censure.

A Congressional House or Senate vote of censure has little if any legal standing within federal law.
Republican and Democratic members of both chambers should as an act of bi-partisan agreements, censure President Donald Trump for the inclusions and absences of his statements that contributed to incite what evolved to be mob's violent insurrections against our federal and our states' governments. I would expect such statements of censure to also fault both the left and right “lunatic fringes” of USA's political spectrum.

All leaders in congress perceive the harm to our nation and to the Republican Party, due to our president's statements. Only cowardly congressional members will not affirm bipartisan congressional statements of censure that specifically name President Donald Trump.

Mitch isn't reconvening the Senate until Jan 19. The first time they can start the trial is apparently 1 hr after Joe Biden becomes president

Censure is fine, if it can be done quickly and then moved on from (which sadly is probably not in the cards).

As for impeachment, let it go you f**k nerds. You're not going to get 18 Republican Senators to vote to convict. So you can either start out the Biden presidency and the new Dem control of Congress by fighting for more direct relief for Americans including bigger stimulus checks, or you can start it out by impeaching Trump to no avail for the second time after he's already left office. This is all theater and if you get outside the bubble of nerds who obsess over politics, everyone really just wants to move on and get the return of some confidence in our institutions to address the major crisis we're facing. Maybe it would be worth it to belabor the issue and hold Trump accountable if the impeachment could lead to a Senate conviction, but it can't, so f**k let it go.

so long as we're still a republic come january 21st it will lead to conviction because

1. the trial will last as long as it needs to last, it will be beaten over the heads of the senators
2. trump is removed from power
3. trump has been ostracized from be able to communicate to the masses. what is he going to do, write an op-ed? he refuses interviews because he can't answer questions, he prefers to just write one line at a time on twitter, which has banned him
4. the entire apparatus of government that has been in place to placate the president and defend him is gone
5. the violence this next week from reactionaries will be horrifying enough that it will force it to happen, and because of the aforementioned reasons the weasels in the GOP that have been playing both sides will finally chose democracy over autocracy
6. if it appears the votes aren't there 8 senators can be removed for violating their oath under amendment 14 and therefore reduce the amount of votes needed for conviction

You have more faith in republicans elected officials to be compelled by any of this than I do. Appears the house will be moving forward, so I guess we will see.
