India will only grow in global relevance and strength, its one of the last pools of cheap labor on earth (and english speaking a democratic) so its next in line for a Chinese style boom as global manufacturers and service industries flee China for lower wage locals. Modi is a little hindu fascist but tbh those type of guys usually get alot of shit done. Most reports are the Indian NOMINAL GDP will surpass the US in just 20 years. Even India at half it's current size would be a de facto superpower - climate and grographical issues will really only make India more strong and belligerent. The issues faced by India will only put them in more and more conflict with China. Again, the Himalayas are the source of almost all of India's major rivers, and the Chinese hold that land and will no doubt try to dam and divert it to Indias disadvantage. Remember, the Chinese hold tibet for the exact same reason - its the source of the major Chinese rivers running east as well.

India is the new US and we are the new Britain. We need to play our cards right to make sure the big f**k democracy we share a language with comes on board the right side in due course. USA/EU/Aussie/Japan/India basically puts China and Russia into a corner - that's a 2+ billion strong democratic alliance with 4 of the 5 largest economies on earth, with 4 nuclear powers. But India is critical given its location and population - it dominates an entire ocean in a strategic location, including the adamans, and any attempt to cut china off from the global economy will require hundreds of millions of cheap labourers elsewhere to take up the slack. That can really only be found in India today. A big 5 of USA/EU/Aussie/Japan/India would be completely self-sufficient from an economic, political and military perspective. The Unipolar world of the US setting all the rules in not sustainable in a world with a revanchist Russia and a China with 4x the people and a larger GDP. However, in a multipolar world, if you can get 3 of those poles (US/EU/India) pulling in the same direction, you have got a real hegemonic body again capable of dominating the seas, enforcing a global democratic order, and securing the territorial and political integrity of its key members.

Think of it like its 1900 instead of 2020. China is obviously Germany and the Russians are the Austro-Hugarians. The US is Britain and France is the EU. India is the Russia, the behemoth to the east who may not fit neatly into our little alliance but nevertheless is a critical member.
