Finding A Little Grace These Days

Postby Luke Skywalker » Sat Nov 12, 2016 4:49 pm

This is - hopefully, anyway, my last thread here. Let's just say that I'm rapidly becoming non-political. I do, however (before I go), want to emphasize what my grandfather (a Lutheran minister) would have said about the election and the times we are living in. While he PROBABLY would not have appreciated either a Trump or Hillary presidency, he would have stressed that it's important to always remember to do a good turn daily - especially to those who are hurting, for one reason or another. "For that is how we get rid of self and the desires that come with it," he may have said. He more or less would have continued, "Politics in and of itself stimulates what is base and ignoble in people - passions rise, bridges are burned, feelings are hurt. For politics forces us to focus not on where we agree or can find common ground - while it remains a noble calling, people (seemingly more often than not) completely miss the point of why politics and government are necessary. WE miss the point by being selfish and seem to forget that politics is supposed to be for those who want to help others. Instead, we resort to petty instincts such as anger, name-calling, rioting/protesting if we don't get our way, mud slinging, etc. - all these factors ultimately cause us to be a divided nation, further hindering progress towards what we all have as a common goal. That is to make our nation ultimately a better place to live in, for each and every one of us."

I for one, am willing to give the new president the benefit of the doubt. I can appreciate that being president is the loneliest job in the world - and the toughest, to boot. In other words, even our president (no matter who it is) may sometimes be in need of some understanding and compassion.

Lord, make me a channel of Thy peace - that where there
is hatred, I may bring love -
that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of
forgiveness - that where there is
discord, I may bring harmony - that where there is error, I may bring truth - that where
there is doubt, I may bring faith - that where there
is despair, I may bring hope - that
where there are shadows, I may bring light - that where there is sadness, I may bring
joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to
be consoled, as to console; to
be understood as to understand; to be loved, as to love;
for it is in the giving that we
receive; it is in the pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to
eternal life. - St. Francis of Assisi

Anyway, I do not regret being a member of this forum. I've learned something from each and every one of you - I leave hoping that you've learned a thing or two from me, as well. I'm going to finish my college degree in CIS, do a little work with homeless animals, play music daily - and look for that one life to save out there. I wish each and every person who reads this happiness and peace - may the wind be always at your back on fair and calm seas. Thanks.

You can't leave Luke. You're my reason for being suspended when I post while drinking. What will I do!

Hi Jimmy.

I certainly am leaving and am going to honor the fact that I said this was my last thread.

My last post is going to be to you (this is it) and you're certainly worth responding to.

While you and I have had our disagreements on this forum, I'm sure we both can agree on one thing. It's been a very rough eight years under Obama and it just can't get any worse. Trump? Oh, I've accepted that he has won and I'm going to honor him by NOT being a critic of his. And look, if the man does even 10% of what he promised pre-election, guys like you and me will be on the receiving end in a very positive way. Take jobs, for instance. In my current situation (I use myself as an example), I'm on $14,000 of govt. assistance per year and Medicare (I don't want social security at this stage of my relatively young life - I want a good job). IF Trump creates good jobs for people like myself, then he COULD end up being my best friend. I don't hate the guy, in other words and never did - he wasn't my first choice for the nomination and I frankly didn't think he could win, but now that he has done it, I will at least attempt to get behind him and his supporters.

I realize you drink and (quite frankly) you've had a lot of good reasons to do so these last eight years. Personally, I will be praying for you and your good health and plead for you to please try to get off the sauce any way you can. Know, please, that there is indeed a solution (remember our private message exchange) and you are loved and understood no matter what happens.

I plead for you, also, to look at the prayer in my OP - read it a million times, if you have to. For that, my friend, is the secret to life - and I sincerely wish you a FANTASTIC life. You are an honorable person and I wish you nothing but the best going forward. I will remember you as a fighter who never gives up - so please keep the faith and never give up.
