Let me put it this way: we don't see Buddhism being used as a bludgeon (literally or figuratively) these days the way Christianity and Islam are.

I was just pointing out how not ALL religions are doing this these days.

Now back to Newt Gingrich: how 'bout them apples? Yes, the shooter probably got the idea from... there not being enough God in our schools.

Secularism.

On the Colbert report, they interviewed a Catholic nun, and this question came up - Her response was scintillating. For Christians, God is an ever present influence in our lives, we are taught he is always with us, always present, he in effect is everywhere. Because we chose not to pray before school does not mean Christ or God are not present in the school.

That was a zinger worthy of Babe Ruth status

Oh don't get me wrong I'm not a fan either but what I find so fascinating is how people blatantly use Christianity in this country to justify their hatred, ignorance, discrimination and blood lust. And then for instance, point to Islam as the "evil" religion.

Case in point: can you IMAGINE what the reaction would have been had the school shooter been a Muslim? Ugh.

But it's the ignorance part most of all I find fascinating--that people comfort themselves about their lack of intellect using religion.

And science is now viewed as somewhat heretical.

Guess what the great irony of that is? Guess which society used to lead the world in science before somebody decided the religious angle is what they should build their world around?
