P.S.---There was no war till Lincoln aborted the Constitution and retained forts whithin the secceeded states and imposed martial law in the border states and arrested the whole Maryland State legislature and Jailed all his Ist Amendment editor opposition and etc.-etc. and the hot head blinded by their arrogance Carolinian Masters fired on the Fort after(the same playbook followed by FDR to encourage Pearl) the President's aggressions instigated their stupidity and gave him the "historic purity of motive" to get on with the conquest and occupation of the foreign sovereignty.

As I said, the Planters, the Southern equivalent of the Eastern Elites, was in it to save their chattel slavery system. The northern corporate interest came about through the profits of facilitating the slave trade, in which African bigmen, mostly muslim, traded their already owned black slaves for European manufactures(guns, cloth, etc.) and Caribbean rum to enterprising sea traders. The trade was first Arab then Portuguese and Dutch and later was taken by the British and Yankee traders who morphed into the Banker/Railroad/Manufacturer party. I have always wondered why the American black Pride in their ancestors movement adopted the patoi language of the east African coast muslim slave raiders as their looking-back favored tongue!(Swahili).

The war over slavery had been going on in the west for a generation already. Most of my people had already evacuated the South and were busy in Washington growing wheat and recording the conflict with the Spokane, Palouse, and Coeur D'Alene( "B.F.Manring, Prof. of history, UC Berkely) or instigating the third Californian war for independence from Mexico(the one that succeeded), Nicholas Carriger, founder of the University of Cal at Berkeley Library, owner of the first American owned winery and gold mine and leading member of the combined Californio/American vigilance committee that started the Rebellion. My Smiths in Missouri (2 of them) and the Whittington from North Carolina spent most of the war in Yankee prison camps in Ohio. Whittington returned home to find his wife and daughter hiding in stumpholes in the fields while his son was being hidden by the free blacks who worked the farm after they stopped the carpetbaggers from hanging him while they took all the property, cattle and land. You seem to know the story, if from a different angle; for my family(those who care) it's personal.
