Despite the media push to call Assad a bloodthirsty dictator and paint the revolt as a matter of freedom and democracy (aka part of the Arab Spring), the west never did intervene.
So where did the funding come from? Who could possibly benefit from throwing down the alawi coastal/secular dictatorship in favour of the interior/fiercely sunni militias? HMMMMMM. Obviously not the rich gulf countries, they're all US puppets with no regional ambitions or agency. How did the west intervene? By not intervening, it intervened just enough? If the goal was to have an insane islamic theocracy, why not just help them take down Assad from the start then let them go through the farce of democractic elections? Seemed to work well enough in Lybia and Egypt.

How does the incursion into Iraq fit into this? The opening of another front is a godsend for Assad, and it's got Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, etc, the all sunni club riled up. ISIS breaking off it's leash, or just another devilish move by the invisible chess masters?

I'm still not seeing how you can lay ISIS at the feet of "our" intervention. You don't think the exact same international networks that come into play every time there's an islamist "rebellion" might have had more of an effect? You're really giving your country too much credit. The US is not exactly known for measured and delicate response, finely balancing the scales to get a desired result, especially in the mid-east. That it's all part of some grand strategy is a...charitable interpretation.
