Posted: Tue Jan 20, 2015 2:11 pmI still don't understand why states are allowed to choose their own primary dates. It's a Federal election, overseen by the Federal Election Commission. They should mandate no party primaries, and that jungle primaries be held in all states on the same days, for the same amount of time (start and stop simultaneously).

But, with the absence of party primaries (the GOP isn't going to spring for spending millions upon millions to hold a nationwide party vote), think how nice it would be to have 5-6 "Republican" candidates on the ballot, 5-6 "Democrat" candidates on there, and 10-15 other parties.
We know that half the electorate doesn't vote by name, but by letter (OK, I totally made that stat up, but I'm sure it's a high percentage).
