Nah, I don't agree. White collar crimes are underreported and ignored by our culture and the media. For every petty theft out there you can find some old white guy that got away with relative murder.
But you know what...let's do this: the amount we spend on counter-terrorism, murder, theft, kidnapping, etc is HUGE relative to financial crimes. SEC budget for 2019: $1.7 Billion
DHS? $47.5 Billion. So let's forget punishment. Let's work on detecting the crimes first. Give the SEC a budget of $10 Billion and give the IRS another $10 Billion. Then they can focus more on the wealthy! You know...the people with the means to hide income. Or with much income at all.
