Guns as a means to protect liberty

When I speak with gun enthusiasts they always mention the protection of liberty as a reason for owning guns. The reasoning is that if citizens are allowed to own guns, the government would think twice about trying to oppress the people, because the people would fight back.

So how do you explain the fact that every fvcking Arab nation ruled by a dictator have citizens that own guns? The shittier the nation, the more guns. In the shittiest countries, 8 year-old shepherd boys walk around with an AK47 while attending sheep, and guns are fired off at weddings and birthdays. The places where you see less guns are in nations when high standards of living, such as UAE and Kuwait.

How do you explain that murder is committed on a daily basis?

Does this mean that people do not know that murder is wrong or that a gun would have saved them?

Or does it mean that a single use for a gun could be the defense of liberty, but so far hasn't happened?

I think whether you meant to or not, with the language you're using, it sounds more like the intent is to use a gun as a first or early resort.

The American idea on the subject was that it be used as a last resort, when all else has failed and there are no other options.

Even then, it would be a very difficult task to raise arms against the state.

Hard to explain every f**k Arab nation. They are very different from the US.

All of the rights are to protect the people's rights.

The examples of where guns are banned, do not have such a great record, either.

Or even in cases where one side is simply outgunned, the numbers are not usually favorable.

I don't see why that would prompt you to give up your rights or think that they were stupid because the magic wasn't there.

A right must be exercised. it does not exercise itself.

I think alcohol kills more than guns. what about tobacco? cars? Drugs?

Which right protects us from those evils? Which rights shall we take away in the name of protecting our rights?

Yea it's obviously not logical but some people will never come around to that idea. Americans in the aggregate seem to think they are special for some reason.

All these gun nuts have some delusion that when the UN or Obama or the Russians come they will fight off the tanks with some hard work, ingenuity and a few small arms. The think when someone comes to rob their house they will shot them dead and save their family, despite it being SIGNIFICANTLY more likely their kid ends up shooting himself on accident. It's really silly actually how many people in this country unnecessarily die because a segment of the population has such delusions and because 300 years ago a bunch of rich men wrote it on a document.
